Description

MONTREAL IRIDESCENT CITY / VILLE IRISEE

This artwork was hand woven on a TC2 Jacquard loom, with a weft of cotton and fiber optics, and an electrical circuit

For this tapestry titled Montreal Iridescent City / Ville Irisee, I was inspired by the area in Montreal, Quebec, where the Saint-Lawrence River reflects the lights and the architecture of the city. I wove cotton yarn with fiber optics that are connected to a light source that creates tiny ribbons of light on the surface of the tapestry. Awarded a MFA in 1992, I create textile art on a high warp Gobelins style loom as well as TC2 Jacquard loom. Passionate about innovating, I do research in digital art and programming electronic circuits. I weave with silk, wool and cotton yarns, incorporating fiber optics, micro controllers, and LED lights to produce kinetic effects that interact with the viewer.
